Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 6

For those following along, please turn to page 66 in your Compendium of Curiosities Book to find T!m's Multi-medium collage technique. I LOVED this challenge but as usual, I struggled with my idea/theme a bit. I recently got my July kit from Club Scrap called Destinations and the stencil has the cutest little arrow for pointing out where you are on a map, so I created a trace outline of it in my QK Silhouette software and played with the size a bit…cut several layers of paper and adhered them together to make my own “chipboard” version. Same thing for the heart which I inked w/barn door, then ran through T!m’s Swirls texture fade and inked again w/vintage photo. The license plate was created in photoshop and then just printed on cardstock (from Club Scrap Sonoma kit). For the background paper, I knew I wanted to use something from T!m's lost & found stack, but the color on the one I chose was too similar to my embellishment colors, so I photocopied it in black and white on my printer and then just lightly inked that with Old Paper & Vintage photo distress ink. The base of the card is a from the Club Scrap Freedom collection (inked with vintage photo and black soot) and the matte is a beautiful sparkly red from Club Scrap’s December kit called Ornamental.
I don't know about you, but i'm tired just reading all that...i always seem to find a way to make simple things more difficult. I guess i like to "suffer for my art"!

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 5

Distress Embossing - Boy did I struggle with this week's challenge. Biggest obstacle is that I don't own any distress embossing powder...oh horrors. I know, I know, I should be taken to the woodshed and properly disciplined. I plan to purchase some online as soon as time allows, so please forgive me!! I ended up finding a "recipe" online for distress embossing powder, and although I'm not thrilled with the final results, it's all I have to submit...sorry.

This is a tag that was started a while ago and this little owl (which is distress embossed) was the final touch.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 4

Used the friend definition and metallic aquamarine paint (folk art) for the shabby chic technique on the tag. the rest is just distress inks (tumbled glass, shabby shutters & vintage photo). Oh, and the allegro cuttlebug folder.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 3

This week the challenge technique at http://studiol3.blogspot.com/ is called Alcohol Ink monoprint. I wanted to do a patriotic design, so i chose reds & blues and here's what I ended up with. The flag is adhered to a card made from a lovely sparkly red in the Club Scrap collection called Ornamental.

The flowers are my own interpretation of T!m Holtz's tattered florals dies that I created on my Silhouette.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 2

This is a project I've had in my head ever since my dad passed away a year ago, so i'm happy to finally have it on paper and out of my head. The Compendium of Curiosities Challenge for week 2 is to use a fragment in your design....I have used mine to highlight my Dad's nickname "Coddie".
If you are interested in playing along, hop on over to see Linda at Studiol3.blogspot.com and join in the fun.
The story behind my Dad's nickname goes something like this. When Dad's baby brother Harold was born, my grandparents asked little Carl what they should name his brother and he said "let's call him Coddie"! No one knows where it came from or why but it stuck like glue to my dad instead. Harold, on the other hand, later became known as Taters....and I don't know the story of that at all.
I sure do miss Coddie...i hope he approves of his "tribute" tag. Love u daddy.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 1
Linda at Studio L3 is hosting this challenge and I just had to join in all the fun. This week's technique is called Waterstamping and I very quickly threw together this piece. It's not even in it's finished state, so I'm not sure what it will be. Maybe just a scrapbook page embellie, but I absolutely love the distress ink color combo: mustard seed, spiced marmalade & fired brick.
